Firmware Engineer Team Lead

Baraja is changing in the world of self-driving cars, through their invention of a new type of LiDar, called Spectrum-Scan which delivers the highest performance available. Expanding globally, backed by some of the world’s greatest investors, this is Australias next $B tech company. With a team of over 90 across Australia, the US and China, Baraja is now seeking to find a Firmware Engineer Team Lead to join our team in Sydney. Our team has high-performing engineers and scientists that are investigating novel technologies for our autonomous vehicle sensors.

You will report to the Software Manager

What are we looking for:

A role that will design, develop, test and maintain C code to required specifications. Needs flexibility and ability to think ‘outside the box’, to come up with innovative solutions to unusual problems.

And you be responsible for:

·        Develop C code and identify improvements to existing code

·        Develop automated test scripts (Python)

·        Work with systems, production, quality management, and customer support teams to resolve technical issues

·        Present design alternatives and experimental results to the product development team for review, and review other team member’s designs

·        Simulate, prototype, test, and document new code

·        Work with other teams within product development to resolve cross-discipline design trade-offs

·        Create automated tests for the different levels of test; unit tests, integration tests, system tests, improve test systems and processes

·        Work with field application engineers, production, and systems engineering teams to identify the root cause of problems

·        Devise method of containing/ resolving issues in the form of process or design changes

·        Teaching/coaching junior engineers in good design practices

·        Developing processes with technicians

·        Fostering a productive and professional work environment

·        Evaluate designs against design specifications and standards

·        Provide recommendations and/or design alternatives

What you will need:


·        Bachelor’s or higher in Computer Science, Software/Electrical/Electronic engineering or equivalent

·        Current permit to work full time in Australia on an ongoing basis

·        Experience developing C code on embedded platforms like ARM or PIC

·        Experience with test automation and Python

·        Experience using GIT or another version control tool

·        Passionate about firmware engineering

·        Great communication skills, oral and written

·        Enthusiasm and motivation to take ownership of a project

·        Professional, customer-focussed attitude

·        Experience using an RTOS

·        Experience with product development in a regulated environment (medical, automotive, defence, rail)

·        Ability to read and analyse electronic schematics
